Beginner North Vancouver

  • Time: Thursdays 730 – 830 pm

What to expect from class?

Classes are held in a safe, inclusive space for female identifying bodies (she/her/they/them).

Please bring a yoga mat for a short pilates based warm up and for floor drills. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement. Hip scarves are provided. Barefeet are preferred however ballet slippers or socks are also great.

What class is best for me? All classes work on drills and isolations, body exercises to strengthen muscles and posture, footwork patterns, turns, stage presence, technique, musicality and more!!

Beginners: This class is a class for well, beginners!  We start from the beginning! We focus on building strong foundations through posture, coordination, and basic footwork patterns. You’ll learn essential turns, body isolations, and arm work, along with drills to strengthen the hips and pelvis. We explore movement in all planes, use mirroring to support learning, and wrap things up with simple, repetitive choreography that helps everything come together in a fun, supportive way. This class is a must and should be repeated several times to ensure success.

Foundations: This class is for beginner and more experienced dancers alike! This class builds on deepening and strengthening technique on all levels.  Foundations bellydance class builds on the basics with a focus on posture, footwork variations, essential turns, and traveling steps. We incorporate drills to strengthen the hips and pelvis, explore movement in all planes, and refine body isolations and arm work. Each class includes choreography designed to deepen your understanding of the dance while putting technique into practice.

Advanced: Advanced bellydance class challenges dancers with intricate footwork, layered isolations, and more complex turns and traveling patterns. We continue to build strength and control through targeted drills, with a focus on movement across all planes and refined arm work. Choreography in this class is designed to deepen expression, musicality, and technique with a focus on stage performance.

 

Ashley Rhianne is a Vancouver-based bellydance performer and instructor with international experience in teaching and performing. A longtime fixture in the Vancouver dance community, she is recognized for her strong technique, vibrant energy, and deep passion for Oriental dance. She travels regularly to Egypt to continue her training and cultural studies.
