Thursday September 19

Thursday open class: Shahrzad Signature Tabla Solo *separate class from intensive

630-9pm (2.5 hours)

Learn Shahrzad’s unique tabla solo technique in a series of technique breakdowns and drills and then add it all together into a short challenging tabla solo choreography which can be used to practice or performance.

Q&A 9-9:45pm

September 20 – 22 (16.65 hours)

Egyptian Technique Intensive

In this intensive Shahrzad will share her personal approach for developing strong dance technique. Each day will feature conditioning, technique breakdowns, drilling, and combinations. Over the course of the weekend all of the technique and combinations will be combined to form an exciting and challenging Mejance choreography. Along with movement training Shahrzad will also be using lecture and Q&A to delve deeper into some of these subjects and give students the opportunity for direct feedback for personal development.  

Friday:

Footwork and Turns: Learn to glide around the floor with grace and ease as we move from the fundamentals of strong footwork to advanced turn variations. 

10:00-12:00 Technique and rhythm training through conditioning, drills, & combos

12:45-3:00 Training & choreography

Saturday:

Belly and Hips: Improve your accents and isolations with focused training on muscle control and coordination.

10:00-12:30 Technique, conditioning, drills, & combos for hips & belly

Break

1:15-3:45 Training & choreography

Sunday:

Arms and Finishing Touches: Take a deeper look at technique for arms, hands, hair, and upper body and how they can be used to add personality, meaning, and depth to your dance. 

11:00-1:30 Technique, conditioning, drills, & combos for arms, hair, & flourishes

Break

2:15-4:30 Choreography section for ams, hair & flourishes, combo drilling

Friday September 20 Café Cairo 2 Gala Show featuring the Layali Dancers, Shahrzad of Cairo & Special Guests

Thursday night open class:

  • EARLY BIRD PRICE until JULY 15 2024: $85 for non-registered intensive members $75 for registered participants
  • After July 15: $100 for non-registered intensive members, $85 for intensive members

Intensive weekend (Friday – Sunday):

  • EARLY BIRD PRICE until JULY 15 2024: $575
  • After July 15: $625

Single day intensive option (Saturday or Sunday only)

  • EARLY BIRD PRICE until JULY 15 2024: $225
  • After July 15: $300

No refunds provided.  If you are unable to attend, you must sell your space & let the organizers know of the change.

If you are looking for a place to stay, the workshop venue & gala show location are located in Mount Pleasant.  The workshop venue is close to the Main street Skytrain station which is accessible from downtown or further east (15 min walk).

 If you are in town for a few days, here are some suggestions for things to do & see while you are here?  Always bring rain gear though because Vancouver is a rainforest (we call it the WET COAST ha!)
