Ashley Kirkham and Tim Gerwing are excited to offer a workshop for dancers to learn about the most commonly encountered Middle Eastern rhythms on March 26, 2017. This will be the fourth workshop in the series and will focus on rhythms of a megeance. The workshop will cover rhythms which will be explained and demonstrated by Tim Gerwing. Technique and combinations will be taught by Ashley Kirkham.

With powerhouse Flamenco singer, Vicente Griego, and live musicians playing Flamenco guitar and Cajon, Oud and Darbuka, the dance is showcased with profound musicality. The beauty of lyrical dance and the power of percussion result in a dazzling presentation, full of drama, intensity and bravado. Encuentros is at once a feast for the eyes, the ears and the soul!
Encuentros is a rich exploration of human interaction and expression. As dancers encounter each other, each reveals a personal journey of joy and sorrow, jealousy and rage, loneliness and, hope. Witness rich, seductive dance duets featuring Ricardo Lopez, soloist with Nuevo Ballet Español, and Joel Hanna from New York’s Broadway – a rare treat in Vancouver! Other highlights include the alluring dance imagery of the Spanish bata de cola (long train dress); soulful evocative belly dance, and rapid-fire footwork of epic proportions in a jealous love triangle.
